Engineered wood products are made from wood strands, particles, fibres and flakes or veneers, bonded together with adhesives. These products are very stable and may offer greater strength over solid wood equivalents, for example, where designed to be used as joists or panels in structural applications.
With appropriate manufacture and
finishing, engineered wood products also
compare well with solid wood in a range of
appearance-grade applications such as
flooring and furniture.
Importantly, engineered wood products
allow more efficient use of timber by
utilising smaller diameter low-grade logs
that are otherwise converted to pulp
woodchips.
Engineered wood products provide
significant value-adding, yielding a practical
visually-pleasing alternative to competing
materials such as concrete, steel,
aluminium and plastic.
